Bradfield School
Bradfield School boasts an amazing number of multi-talented musicians many of whom played a huge part in making our 2019 Festival a huge success both as solo performers on the Bandstand and Main Stage. The school Jazz Band brought the house down at the Festival concert at the High School. We were able to give them a grant that they used towards the purchase of 40 ukuleles for class teaching. Brilliant ! We look forward to their performance at this year’s rescheduled Festival concert.
Deepcar St John C of E Primary School
In the summer of 2019 the Festival team worked with Deepcar St John Primary School on the Royal Opera House ‘Create and sing Carmen’ programme. All the students in the choir really engaged with the story and the fun and musical games of the opera house programme learning how to tell a story through music. They came up with their own mini production of Carmen that they then performed for the Valley Festival audience in the “Kids Make Music” concert and again at a Children’s University event.
We were able to give Deepcar St John a Valley Festival grant to take the choir to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to see quite a modern production of Alice’s Adventures Underground. This trip was also helped with a travel grant from the Royal Opera House. It was a fantastic trip that went like a dream. A good journey, amazing seats. A bucket list experience for anyone. Amazing young people who enjoyed every minute of the day especially the Macky D’s on the way home. They are now working on their next production the Opera House’s Create and Sing Hansel and Gretel. We look forward to seeing what they have achieved. In the mean time hear the choir sing and see their pictures about their trip to London. Amazing!
